F.A.Q.

Is there a charge for your service?

Yes. Prices start from £7 per 1,000 words for basic proofreading but all jobs are priced on an individual basis. I take into account factors such as the length of the work, level of study, deadline, etc. I am always happy to read through a sample of your work (up to 500 words) and demonstrate my service for free and provide you with a no obligation quote.

How do I pay?

I accept payments in cash, by PayPal, by cheque, or by BACS transfer. Please be aware that a small fee will be charged if you make a payment by PayPal (this will be confirmed before payment is made).

When do I pay?

Typically I ask that 50% of the total fee be paid before the work begins. The remaining balance is then payable upon completion of your work. For large projects/fees payment plans are available. Business accounts are also available. Payment is generally discussed on an individual basis when the initial proposal is accepted.

Can you write my essay on Trench Warfare or Environmental Law?

No. I offer proofreading and editing services. I correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes and may suggest that you rephrase a clumsy expression but will never rewrite large sections of your work or draft something from scratch.

Does your service guarantee me a better grade?

Submitting an essay with a good level of spelling, punctuation, and grammar that is well structured and clear can gain as much as 20% of the overall grade available. However, your final grade will ultimately depend on the quality of the research you have undertaken, how well you have understood the topic and how accurately and clearly you have answered the question.

Isn’t this cheating?

Examiners are most concerned with your understanding of the topic and so it is important that you express those ideas succinctly and with clarity. Your mark should be based on the content, the critical thinking you display and the research you have undertaken. It is important that your work is not undermined by the quality of your written English. I do not and will not write your essay for you.

Can I give you my work in stages?

I am prepared to do this if a deadline is looming but prefer to have all the work submitted at once. This allows me to consider the consistency, clarity, and structure throughout the piece which I believe is more effective. Businesses, particularly those who hold accounts with me, are able to send work through on an ad hoc basis.

Can I meet with you to discuss this in person?

I am based in Wirksworth, Derbyshire and am happy to meet with local students, authors, or businesses to discuss their work. This can be a no obligation meeting to summarise my services, assess the work, and propose a fee and schedule of work or even a follow up meeting to relay my amendments and help you learn from your mistakes.*

*this will incur a small additional fee

Does it matter that I’m not local to you?

My proofreading services are often conducted solely by email communication and can be used by anyone regardless of geographical location. My only stipulation for customers outside of the UK is that we fully discuss and agree upon the payment method and schedule in advance.

When are you available to proofread my work?

My availability varies throughout the year and is often affected by the academic calendars. I am happy to schedule work in advance so that you are ensured of my availability. It is best to call or email me to confirm availability. Should I be unavailable to proofread your work I will endeavour to help you make alternative arrangements.

Will you share my work with anyone and do I still own it?

Your work remains yours. I would never use your work even as samples for other students. Several research students ask me to sign confidentiality clauses, which I am happy to do. I keep a backed up copy of your final corrected work so that there is another copy, for your security. Equally I am happy to delete all files upon payment, if you wish.

Do you have any conditions?

On agreeing a return date and fee for the work all customers enter into a contract with Kelly Nicholls/Fine Print. This indicates acceptance of Fine Print’s terms and conditions.
