Proofreading, editing and more

I work with a wide range of students from first year undergraduates to those completing PhD theses, with native speakers and international students with English as a second or additional language. Regardless of their ability, most students approach me because they need a fresh pair of eyes to scan the work they have laboured over and spot mistakes that they have overlooked.

The services I provide include, but are not limited to:

•Spelling
•Punctuation and quotation marks
•Grammatical mistakes
•Typographical errors
•Subject-Verb disagreements
•Apostrophes
•Comma usage and splices
•Capitalisation
•Tenses
•Sentence fragments and lengths
•Run-on sentences
•Structure and theme
•Organisation
•Audience appropriateness

Types of documents

My services are primarily aimed at students and the following list is typical of the document types I regularly proofread. However I am always willing to consider an unorthodox type of document so just contact me with your request.

•Essays
•Theses
•Dissertations
•Reports
•Research papers
•Book reviews
•Presentations
•Projects
•Admissions essays
•Personal statements
•Application forms/letters
•CVs

Turnaround times

Each piece of work is different and is treated as such. The timescale for my services will depend on the length, quality and level of the work as well as the deadline imposed and other commitments. This serves as a rough guide:

less than 2,000 words – 1 to 2 working days

2,000 to 5,000 words – 2 to 3 working days

5,000 to 10,000 words – 3 to 5 working days

more than 10,000 words – please contact me

Prices

Prices start at £7 per 1,000 words for basic proofreading but a number of factors need to be considered. I will take into account the level of work, how many words there are and the imposed deadline. I am always happy to offer no obligation quotes for any piece of work and will proofread a sample of your work (up to 500 words) to demonstrate my services and better gauge the attention your work needs.

Track Changes

I use the Track Changes application in Microsoft Word* to show the text that requires attention and my suggested amendment(s). This allows the student to accept or reject my changes. I never enforce the change but leave the option to the student. Although this means that the student must read through all of the notes it ensures that s/he learns what their common mistakes are and can better understand why I have made the changes**.

If you are unfamiliar with Track Changes visit this page to see how it works.

*this is also compatible with opensource software such as Open Office.

**I do also provide a copy of the document with all changes accepted.

You remain in control

By allowing you to accept or reject the Track Changes you remain in control of your work. The document remains yours at all time and I neither claim nor expect acknowledgement for my proofreading services. The intellectual property remains yours and I will sign a confidentiality clause if required. I will happily keep an archived copy of your final document for further security or I can delete all copies of your work upon payment. I never share your work with other students or other companies. You remain in complete control of your work.

5 reasons to choose me

Every document is reviewed by me rather than shared amongst a team
Some proofreading companies dissect work and distribute it amongst their staff. I read your work in its entirety, meaning I can gauge the consistency of the whole document and ensure a more effective proofread. On the rare occasion that I am unsure about a feature of your work I will ask a colleague for a second opinion. These are all respected academics, qualified teachers or experienced proofreaders.

I’m committed to your privacy and security
I won’t share your personal details or documents with any other students or third parties. I ensure that ownership of your work remains with you and that you feel in control of the entire proofreading and editing process.

I’m efficient, reliable and flexible
My proofreading and editing services are efficient and effective. My work is fast but thorough and I can be relied upon to meet a deadline. Many students actually receive their work back well in advance of the deadline even if they haven’t paid a premium for that.

I work to your specifications and your style guide
I check that your formatting is consistent throughout your work. If a style guide is provided I can also ensure that references and citations are consistently correct.

I offer excellent value for money
My prices start from just £7 per 1,000 words. I treat each piece of work individually as I recognise the time and effort that has been invested in your document and give you a fair price for the services I offer.

Don’t just take my word for it

Read the testimonials of past customers to see why they were happy with the quality, efficiency and professionalism of my proofreading and editing services.

I work with a wide range of students from around the world. To see the nationalities of students and the universities they attend click here.
